NEW VICAR FOR ST JAMES’ CHURCH, RUDRY

We are delighted to announce that the Reverend Matthew Sellers will be the new Vicar
for St James’ church in Rudry.

His appointment by the Bishop of Monmouth, Cherry Vann, as Team Vicar will see Matt
join the clergy team of the Mountain and Marsh Ministry Area (M&MMA).
The M&MMA is the newly-created body within the Diocese of Monmouth that is
effectively one Parish covering eight churches in our area, one of which is St James, Rudry.
The Monmouth Diocese is part of the Church in Wales.
Matt’s particular focus within the team will be on St James, Rudry, and St Michael’s
Church, Michaelston-y-Fedw.
For the past near-20 years, Matt has been a teacher at St.Teilo’s High School in Cardiff.
Prior to that, he was a Youth Worker in Aberystwyth, Crickhowell, Manchester and – in
more recent years – locally in Lisvane and Newport. Before then, Matt’s career included
bank and employment agency work. Together with being a family man with his wife and
three children, he brings decades of experience of normal life outside the church to his
future ministry in Rudry.
Matt will initially be Licensed as a non-stipendiary Vicar on 28th April while continuing in
his teaching post until the summer, then take up his post full time in September.
His Licencing Service of 28th April will be in St Michael’s Church, Michaelston-y-Fedw (CF3
6XS) from 4:00pm to 5:30pm. As numbers need to be managed, if you would like to
attend, please email our Ministry Area Leader, the Revd Ross Maidment, at
rossmaidment@cinw.org.uk.
Whilst the main Rudry service on the day will be Matt’s Licencing service in Michaelston,
St James will still be open at the usual time of 9:30am that Sunday morning to provide a
quiet period of contemplation for anyone attending at that time.
